Rug Repair and Cleaning

At Bakhtiyar we believe that no carpet is ever a lost ruin, beyond repair. As Persian Poet Rumi once said “where there is ruin, there is hope for treasure”. Our team of highly skilled cleaners and restorers, based in our London Warehouse, carry out repairs using the traditional knotting methods of each region to fully restore carpets to their former glory, taking wool dated from the same period as the carpet was woven to perfectly match the rest of the piece.

As well as carrying out general repairs, we work with many historic organisations to clean and restore carpets bringing them back to life, in some cases removing 200 year old stains.

There are certain tell tale signs that your carpet needs to be repaired that if noticed early on can help save extra cost when repairing your carpet. One such example is the fringe of a carpet, which may show early signs of damage such as fraying. The fringe runs through the entire field of the carpet forming the warp strings, which contains each knot making up the visible pattern. It’s essential to put right any damage to this area as soon as possible to prevent damage to the main field of the carpet arising from the carpet’s weakened foundations, a far more costly and time consuming repair.

The binding that runs along the edge of a carpet is another indicator of its health. The binding of a carpet frames the knotted weft strings, protecting them from fraying. Any damage to this area should likewise be repaired immediately to prevent loss of the main field.

The average time it takes for a clean and repair to be completed varies depending on the extent of the damage, whether stain removal is needed etc. however most small jobs can be expected to be completed within 1-2 weeks. Be amazed by the carpet that is returned to you.

Carpets can be brought into our Stockbridge Gallery, weekdays 10am - 5pm or on Saturdays from 10am - 4pm for an estimate by Persian carpet expert Masoud Mazaheri-Asadi. Larger carpets can be collected for cleaning and repair as well as being returned. In the case of an emergency (e.g. flood damage, etc.) please call 01264 811033, or email us photos of the damage to: info@bakhtiyar.com.
