TABRIZ

Tabriz carpets are from the North West of Persia. They are some of the finest carpets produced, often made from wool & silk with natural dyes. Tabriz borrow designs from Esfahan, specifically the King Abbasy floral design when weaving carpets. However they also have their own designs, typically depicting hunting scenes.

The Herati Leaf design in Tabriz is called the Mahi (Goldfish) as there is often a silk thread going through the leaf, which makes the leaves shimmer when one walks around the carpet, similarly to goldfish in water.
