QUM

 

Qum is located 100km south of Tehran in the centre of Persia. It was not originally a carpet producing city but in the past 100 years the production of carpets has increased and it is now one of the finest producers of Persian carpets in the world.

 

Qum carpets tend to be small to medium in size and have some of the highest knot counts in carpets. They are usually 100% silk but may also be woven from wool. The designs are typically curvilinear and floral but many are woven to a pictorial scene, often a tree of life design.
